2. Research Components of the prototype
The prototype, a wearable tech jacket, symbolises the artisan's voice, touch, and identity offering a multi-sensory journey into their world and craft traditions.
The three main components of the final prototype are as follows-
- The artisan’s voice captured through the garment. The reaction of the artisans to the newly forged future craftworld proposal and their hopes about technology is encapsulated in the jacket. This is done through the combination of soundboards and microcontrollers.
- The wooden blocks- The wooden blocks act as a symbol of the introduction of technology as a new tool. This is a vision of the future toolset of the artisan. The blocks are embedded with RFID tags which trigger the soundboards to play audio.
- The Digital Passport of Artisans- NFC tags are embedded in the construction of the jacket, the final garment. These tags are further coded to display the passport of the artisans whenever a mobile device is tapped on it. This passport displays the present hopes and aspirations of artisan about technology and their future world.
- Artisan’s touch- The sensory experience of the ‘chapai’ the impression of block being printed on the fabric is encapsulated in the garment. The haptic sensors embedded in the garment provide a motor movement channeling the sensation of the block being printed on the fabric. This technology is a future proposal for the scope of the project.
